Mental Health
Consultus Nurses can help patients who require mental health nursing, for example those with dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, to remain in the familiarity of their own homes.
For mental health patients, it is important that routine and familiarity are maintained and that change is kept to a minimum. Consultus Nurses are able to achieve this desired balance within the home environment. They will also encourage choice and independence wherever this is appropriate. If required, Consultus has Specialist Nurses who have an additional qualification in Mental Health Nursing or specific experience in various types of dementia.
Consultus Nurses will be able to liaise closely with other healthcare professionals and assist with:
-
All aspects of personal care
-
Administration of medication
-
Monitoring early signs of distress, thus avoiding challenging behaviour
-
Any other medical nursing needs, such as wound dressings
-
Provision of nutritious meals and promotion of hydration
-
Identification of pain, particularly in relation to patients who are cognitively impaired
-
Help with mobility
-
Promoting independence
-
Verbal and non-verbal means of communication
-
Distraction therapy
-
Support to family members
As part of our comprehensive service, we will undertake the management of the patient’s day-to-day nursing needs, while a rota of 2 to 3 Nurses will provide continuity of care for longer term bookings.
We recognise the importance of individual care plans and risk assessments; Consultus Nurses will ensure that these are compiled at the outset of any assignment with regular updates, as required.
